First: Read the Bible
Before reading any literature, I highly recommend you first and foremost read the Word of God, which is the Bible. By doing so, you’ll be able to filter out nonbiblical viewpoints and not be swayed by what may sound good or right.
The following books are books that I’ve read and or are highly recommended books regarding biblical motherhood. God uses many people to help spread His message, along with encouragement to pursue a Christ-centered life. We can learn from others’ experiences and guidance!
Biblical Books on Motherhood :
Spiritual Mothering by Susan Hunt
Scripture is clear about being mentored by older women and the importance of older women mentoring young women in the church (Titus 2). Susan Hunt (watch her videos on YouTube!) does such a beautiful job showcasing how to invest in other women around you! This is what the church community needs to look like, and we have a big part to play. Ultimately, God will do the work. We need to be the vessels wiling to be used by Him for His glory! SOLI DEO GLORIA!
The Shaping of a Christian Family: How My Parents Nurtured My Faith by Elisabeth Elliot
Consider the kind of legacy you want to leave for your children by reading Elisabeth Elliot’s childhood story. Learn from how her family instilled a love for Jesus that became a lasting legacy of faith for generations to come.
Heart of God: 31 Days to Discover God’s Love for You by Elisabeth Elliot
I’m about to start this devotional, and I love the author even though I have yet to read it. She was a phenomenal woman who trusted God even during intense suffering. If you need to learn her story, you can click here. Her husband was a missionary in Ecuador and was killed trying to evangelize to the Auca tribe. Even after that, Elisabeth continued to serve the tribe and spread the message of God’s love to them. Her best-selling book Through the Gates of Splendor details this extraordinary act of forgiveness and redemption.
Becoming and Beholding: The Art of Everyday Fellowship by Ruth Chou Simons
A dear friend gifted this to me, and for that, I am truly grateful! This beautifully illustrated book (also done by the author) is so encouraging, with Scripture ladened throughout. Ruth points out how we become what we behold, so how we approach even the smallest details will influence the type of person we become. She points readers back to the redemption story of Christ and how he can use every aspect of our lives to point back to Him!
Risen Motherhood: Gospel Hope for Everyday Moments by Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler
We play a part in how the gospel message is portrayed based on how we live and approach life moments. This book showcases how we can apply the gospel message in every aspect of motherhood, including the mundane moments. Every mom can connect with the real-life examples in this book! God’s grace and redemption are painted beautifully in our lives; we have to take a moment to open our eyes to see it. This book offers so much insight into that and more!
